Program flexibility

In addition to one-on-one, in-school mentoring, AOK supports students in a variety of settings allowing for flexibility for volunteer mentor/tutors and participating schools. ​

Supporting OUt-of-School Programs

These programs take place directly after school, generally between 3 – 6 p.m., and focus on academics.  Enrichment activities are also provided. The Saturday Math Academy takes place from 9 – 12 a.m.  Professional staff is present with volunteers.

Classroom support

Some AOK volunteers assist teachers in the classroom at various schools, making sure to help the teachers and all their students succeed.

Afternoon Zoom Meetings

AOK volunteers meet with their mentees on Zoom which allows those who work to still be part of AOK, and those students who have busy school days to still participate. Zoom mentoring is also one of the only opportunities for mentees and mentors to continue meeting through summer. From 2023-2024, the Zoom mentoring program is supported and advertised by the Howard County government as part of the YEP! grant funding.
