  • Engage student(s) in learning through reading together; assisting student(s) with class and homework assignments; playing educational games; and doing puzzles, crafts, or using science kits, etc.

  • Listen to the student(s) tell about events in his or her life, helping the student clarify perceptions, reactions, and choices.

  • Identify the student's interests and build on them.

Ready to Start?

We are actively recruiting for the school year. Most volunteer work with A-OK requires weekday, daytime hours.  Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. Follow the steps below and you will be on your way to making a difference in a child's life...and it's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3!

Information Session. The first step is to attend one of our monthly Volunteer Orientation sessions. The session will help potential volunteers learn more about A-OK and volunteer opportunities.

Check out our upcoming events here on the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/aokmentors/events

Application and Screening. Once you’ve decided to get involved you will fill out an application and be scheduled for an interview with one of our staff members. Screening also includes two reference checks, a criminal record background check, and a Child Protective Services clearance.  â€‹

Training and Matching. A-OK Volunteers attend a 3-hour pre-service training class to help prepare them for working with the children. Shortly after training, A-OK and the school liaisons will work to identify the best fit for the volunteer and the student, ensuring that the match will meet the student’s needs and that the experience will be satisfying for the volunteer.
